• Water conservation – in washing our bikes we use buckets of warm water to minimise the use of water, reserving use of the hose for final washdown.
• Our staff are encouraged to use our bikes and ebikes at no cost to them for their transport to and from work, limiting their work-related carbon emissions
• We operate a modern, fuel-efficient fleet which is regularly maintained and serviced – this limits our carbon emissions

From the beginning of the construction of the Great Taste Trail, the Nelson Cycle Hire team have been doing their bit, to build the Trail and helping to maintain its beautiful environment - from building boardwalks and bridges to planting alongside the trails, cooking barbecues to feed the hungry trail working parties (local Rotary Groups), and we were also involved in collecting the rubbish dropped along the trail by not so environmentally friendly trail users. The latest efforts we were involved in was the coordination and participation in Nelson Rotary clubs project to build and paint 4 new shelters on the trail.

Our commitment to our environment took a big leap forward recently with the replacement of one of our diesel vehicles by a new plug in hybrid electric vehicle (also seen in the header above).

We love it. It’s sooo quiet and chockfull of AI so has vastly improved safety features. So when our cyclists want transfers or luggage transported we can do that for them in a more sustainable way.

Of course another big feature is that it is cheaper and so the dual advantage of being relatively guilt free and economically more friendly, is pretty irresistible.

Nelson is perennially in the top regions for most New Zealand Sunshine Hours - so we hope to utilise more and more solar power.
