Option One – Two Days – Magical Mapua …. >
Magical Mapua and the Moutere ( Self guided with ebike)
You will be based at the charming seaside town of Mapua
- Day One - Jump on your ebike and join Tasman’s Great Taste Trail at Nelson Airport; enjoy a leisurely 26 km cycle through the coastal wetlands to Mapua (less than 2 hours cycling excluding stops) Grade 1, easy.
- On your journey visit award winning wineries, cafes, restaurants, and even a cheese shop.
- And there’s more! Try a visit to an art glass blowing studio or perhaps spot some of the estuary’s myriad of migratory and native birds. Have a refreshing swim on Rabbit island’s inviting sandy beach.
- Then cross from Rabbit Island on the cycle ferry to Mapua (10 minutes). Accommodation with breakfast in a lovely B&B in Mapua where your luggage will await you.
- Tour Special - On arrival at Mapua enjoy a complimentary glass of wine.
- Day 2 - explore and sample the great wines, vineyard cafes and rolling countryside of the Moutere before cycling back to Nelson.
- Optional extra – instead of cycling back to Nelson, we will pick you up from a winery or restaurant in the Moutere and transport you back to Nelson.
Option Two – Two days – Double Treat …. >
Great Taste Trail Double Treat with Ebike
This option is based around 2 great one day self-guided tours from your Nelson base
- Day One – you will be taking a day excursion to Magical Mapua. Hop on your ebike and join the Great Taste Trail at Nelson Airport. Enjoy a leisurely 26 km cycle through the coastal wetlands to Mapua (less than 2 hours cycling excluding stops) Grade 1 easy.
- On the way visit award winning wineries, cafes, restaurants, have a free cheese tasting, visit an art glass blowing studio, perhaps spot some of the estuary’s myriad of migratory and native birds. Enjoy a refreshing swim on Rabbit Island’s inviting white sand beach.
- Then cross from Rabbit Island on the cycle ferry to Mapua (10 minutes). Explore the vibrant township of Mapua, have a leisurely lunch and then return to Nelson to your spacious accommodation at beautiful Tahuna Beach where you are staying for 2 nights. Your luggage will be waiting here for you. (Total ride for today about 52 km)
- Tour special – enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or beer.
- Day Two– Spooners Tunnel ride
- Nelson Cycle Hire will pick you up from your accommodation and transport you to the far end of the Spooners Tunnel (the longest disused rail tunnel in the southern hemisphere).
- Cycle through the tunnel (headlamps provided) and head off on a long downhill into the Waimea Plains. You can enjoy a great traditional pie at Wakefield’s bakery or eat at one of the excellent cafes in the Village.
- Out on the Plains you can visit wineries or enjoy a craft beer tasting or two while taking in the peaceful pastoral scenery. We will collect your bikes from your accommodation at the end of your ride.

Nelson Experience (Optional Extra – Not included in package)
- Add an extra night in Nelson and the following day take a guided walking tour (2 hours) and finish up with a coffee and an unbeatable cheese scone in one of Nelson’s eclectic cafes. You are in for a treat.
Nelson Experience (for two): $120
Great Taste Treat Package includes:
- Ebike hire for 2 days (includes helmet, lock, pump and puncture repair kit, and a pannier)
- Map and guide notes.
- Transport to your Spooners tunnel tour day 2 if staying in Nelson.
- Luggage transfers to your accommodation if staying in Mapua.
- A complimentary glass of wine per person.
- Two nights accommodation including breakfast at your choice of either Mapua or Nelson (subject to availability)
Optional Extras
With the 2 days magical Mapua package – pick up from a winery, café or pub in the Moutere (min 2 persons) and transfer back to Nelson. $30 per person
